Driver!! Ryan

Okay you got me, I am the creator of this page, so I guess here's a little history on myself-

Back in ~2019 I found my way into the scene by following the progress of a good friend James, at the time he had just sold his S13 hatch in favor of a new to him JZX81 Mark ii. His process and drive really pushed me to begin documenting what was going on with drifting around then, where before it seemed like you would find the cheapest car you could find and thrash on it, now there was purpose, not only were you intended to drive well, but to also style your machine accordingly. Not long after meeting james I picked up a camera and started shooting, originally on polaroid then quickly moving up to 35mm and soon after medium format film aswell. Although these formats are objectively obsolete, I felt that the process of shooting with it was an adjacent feeling to what I saw when my friends would put together their art. Along with the fact that the inspiration that drove these builds were all formed off the images captured on film, I felt it was fitting to use the same medium here.

After attending multiple events, primarily KnuckleUp in Houston Tx, I could see the worth in all of the effort these drivers have been exerting. So I wanted to get in on this and put together a machine of my own. Starting with an NA Miata, which is all I had at the time, I slowly funneled my pennies into creating a fairly capable little car. Although this car was perfect for learning how to drive hard and limit myself to no handbreak use, I wanted more, I always wanted more. Initially it was in the form of a turbocharger, but over time, after installing a standalone ECU on it, I felt that the money required to take that car to the next level outweighed the cost of getting into the chassis I've wanted for years now, A Nissan 240sx.

Some shuffling of funds later and winding up with a daily driver 280z, I finally found the car, 1 owner, blown engine and marginal rust, but full interion and completely stock, I found a base to build upon. Over the course of a month, a rebuild of the blown up KA24de and deteriorated the fuel system, I got it driving. A 5 lug swap later and it had wheels on it, swapping some parts over from the miata, and an intensive fiberglass repair job on the new to me body kit later, its battle ready. Sporting a Hot Road Front bumper, GP Sports style side skirts and kouki rear valances, its become far from the forgotten car left to sit. This is my new machine, and I plan to improve it more and more as time goes on, while holding onto the oem styling that made me fall for the 180sx look in the first place.
